A devastating fire tore through a building housing migrant workers in southern Kuwait early on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of 40 Indian nationals and injuring dozens more. Among the victims, two individuals from Kerala have been confirmed dead.

In Kollam district, the family of Umarudheen Shameer received heartbreaking news that their loved one had perished in the fire.

Shameer, who had been working in Kuwait as a driver for the past five years, was identified by relatives settled in Kuwait. His family is currently in discussions with government authorities to coordinate the repatriation of his body and other formalities.

Shameer had last visited Kerala nine months ago during his leave.

Another Kerala native, Stephin Abraham Sabu from Pampady, Kottayam, was also among the dead. Sabu, 29, worked as an engineer in Kuwait. His family, including his mother Shirley Sabu and brothers Febin and Kevin, are mourning his loss.

Stephin’s brother Febin is also in Kuwait.

The building where the fire erupted was constructed by NBTC, the largest construction group in Kuwait.
