LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Two firefighters were injured and five businesses were burned in a Valley Stream fire on Saturday morning, officials said.
The blaze started at Polish American Deli in the "cockloft" at 5:30 a.m. and eventually spread to five other businesses, officials said. Firefighters battled heavy smoke conditions and intense flames, before putting the fire out.
"Once the fire gets in [the cockloft] it's very hard to contain and hard to extinguish," said Chief Patrick Scanlon.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and are being treated for their injuries, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but, right now, officials have deemed it as not suspicious.
