HUNTS POINT, the Bronx (PIX11) ---- Two passengers died and another was critically injured in a high-speed car crash in the Bronx early Sunday, according to police and a law enforcement source.
A white Chrysler 300 hit an unoccupied red truck near Bryant and Viele avenues in Hunts Point at around 3:20 a.m., according to the NYPD. A 21-year-old man and a woman were rushed to the hospital but could not be saved, police said.
The driver, 23, and another female passenger were taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
The Chrysler was speeding when it jumped the curb and hit a building after crashing into the truck, according to a law enforcement source. Video from the scene shows the mangled Chrysler on a sidewalk between the building and the damaged red fuel truck. Parts of the white Chrysler were strewn across the street and sidewalk.
"It's demolished. It's totaled," said a driver who works for the truck company.
The driver was arrested but charges are pending, sources said.
