Clements was threatening to kill himself, and ignored several commands to put down the weapons, authorities said. After some time, he went into his home and then came back out before rushing down the driveaway pointing a gun at the officers, police said.

Nassau County police say that the officer was forced to shoot Clements to stop the threat to officers and the public. Clements was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the 19-year-old has a history of mental illness and a juvenile arrest record.
