in Jawahar Nagar police station area late Monday night. The hostel warden discovered the body in the room on Tuesday morning and informed the police.
The deceased was identified as Shubh Choudhary, resident of Surajpur in Chhattisgarh. He had appeared for the JEE-Mains exam 2024, the answer key for which was released on Monday evening and the result declared early Tuesday morning. The deceased teen likely checked his score with the answer key before taking the extreme step. However, police are yet to ascertain the status of his result and marks.
Shubh had been preparing for JEE at a coaching institute in Kota and living in hostel room in Jawahar Nagar police station area for the past two years.
Circle officer of the area, DSP Bhawani Singh, said no suicide note was recovered from his room. When the teen didn’t respond to calls from his parents on Tuesday morning, they asked the hostel warden to check his room, where the warden found him hanging from the ceiling fan, the DSP said.

In violation of norms, the fan in the hostel room was not equipped with anti-suicide device, the DSP said.
The body was placed in mortuary and postmortem will be done after arrival of his parents from Chhattisgarh, he added.

It is the third suicide by a coaching student since January this year in Kota, in addition to that of a 27-yr-old BTech final-year student who hanged himself to death earlier this month.
