BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Investigations into an attack on two Jewish boys in Brooklyn earlier this month resulted in the arrest of a 12-year-old boy, police announced on Wednesday.
The juvenile was charged with assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree, both under the hate crime statute, according to the NYPD.
The two boys, ages 11 and 13, were playing on the sidewalk of Franklin Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant with several others when the juvenile rode up on a Citi Bike on May 12, police said.
The juvenile allegedly got off the bike and approached the group, telling them to “get off the sidewalk,” police said. He then allegedly punched and kicked the victims, before throwing them to the ground while the others ran to safety.
Police said the juvenile rode back and forth on the sidewalk and that there was an interaction between him and the group of kids before the attack.
Police do not believe the juvenile and the victims knew each other. Police say no antisemitic comments were made during the altercation.
