RAIPUR: Eleven cows were discovered dead inside a
double-decker truck
transporting 83 cows, which was intercepted by a group of individuals near the Kumhari check-post in Raipur on Tuesday midnight. The driver of the container fled the spot when he realised that he was being chased by cow protectors. These cows were being transported to Hyderabad from the Bilaspur area.
While the opposition Congress created an uproar in the Assembly over the issue during the calling attention motion, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took to social media to write, “As soon as the BJP government came to power, the series of 'smuggling' and atrocities on cows started again.” Baghel wrote that those in power would have to answer for this.
However, the Speaker of the Assembly, Raman Singh, did not address the issue raised by the opposition during the calling attention motion, stating that it should have been raised during the Zero Hour of the House.
Late on Tuesday night, near the Kumhari checkpoint, cow protectors intercepted it, leading to a commotion. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also expressed his reaction on the social media platform X. Baghel shared photos of dead cows in a heap and wrote, "It is very distressing to see this scene. Villagers have caught 83 cows in the container. It has been found that 11 cows have died. Furthermore, with the arrival of the BJP government, the series of atrocities against cows has begun. The gangs of these smugglers and cow killers who are sitting in the government must be brought to justice."
According to information, around half past midnight on Tuesday, members associated with cow protection received information that a container was passing through the Kumhari area carrying a large number of cows for smuggling. The cow protectors intercepted the container. When the container was opened, it was filled with 83 cows cramped together. After this, the cow protectors informed the local police, and a team was dispatched from the police station to the scene. The police immediately seized the container and brought the cows to the cow shelters in Jarwaya late at night. According to information, 13 cows had died in the container, and some were injured.
The truck seized by the police had number plates from Kerala and Telangana. Additionally, there was a flip number plate, with different states' numbers on both sides. The Amanaka police are currently searching for the owner of the vehicle, and FIRs are being filed against the culprits. Police said that the cow protectors from Bilaspur communicated with their group members in Raipur regarding the transportation of cows from the Bilaspur area. The cows were being transported to Hyderabad for slaughter, the police said while quoting the cow protectors’ statement. Some of the cow protectors chased the overcrowded container. Upon seeing the chase, the container driver and others fled, leaving the vehicle, said the police.
