100 homeless families in NYC to get $1,400 a month in pilot program: report

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A shelter provider in New York City will be giving 100 homeless families monthly cash payments of around $1,400 as part of a pilot program, according to a report

Win, a nonprofit, will be starting the two-year pilot program at its shelters in central Brooklyn on Monday, Gothamist reported.

Participating families must have a child under 2 years old, according to the report. The families will receive about $1,400 monthly that they can spend with no restrictions, Gothamist reported.

Vanderbilt University will study the families for five years, Gothamist reported.

Officials hope the program will help the homeless families be able to move out of shelters faster, according to the report.
