BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A construction worker was injured after a fire escape fell in Brooklyn on Wednesday, according to officials.
Around 12 p.m., a call came in that a fire escape on a building at 3100 Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn fell four stories while a worker was on the escape, according to officials. The worker was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and is expected to survive.
According to officials, an initial inspection from the New York City Department of Buildings found no permit filed with the DOB for work on the facade or fire escape.
DOB inspectors gave several violations to the owner of the six-story building, including failure to institute safety measures, failure to maintain the building, and working without a permit. In addition to the violations, the DOB issued a partial stop work order on all exterior work at the building.
Officials from the DOB said that 10 apartments in the building are now without fire escapes, and the DOB required the owner of the building to have a fire guard company on site until the fire escape can be repaired.
