One of the accused in the murder of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Arif Jamal in Bihar's Siwan district has been arrested, police said on Monday.
The accused, who is believed to be the killer of Jamal, was arrested today along with weapons. According to the police, he committed the crime to establish supremacy in the region.
On Saturday, bike-borne armed assailants opened fire at Jamal, the AIMIM leader who was the district president of the party. Jamal was at his fast food stall when the incident happened. He was rushed to the hospital but died later.
According to Jamal's son, three armed assailants came to the fast food joint and opened fire.
“They wore mufflers, and it appeared as if they were friends of my father. They fired shots and sped away on the same motorcycle they had used," Jamal's son told India Today.
However, the police have not revealed any details about the other accused.
The Bihar Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and the probe is underway.
